I did some re-decorating to my layout tonight, hope you enjoy my non-traditional design I created. Hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving and bought many great things during Black Friday ;DOMG, this vid totally reminds me of my dwarf hamster "Sandy the Man Candy", haha. Well instead mine had bit my finger one day and I flicked at him in response and then in his response he flipped over onto his back and threw a squeak tantrum, heh, guess you had to their.

Filipino Picadillo

It took a bit of research to even figure out what it was that my Mr. Shy's mom had made for me awhile back. So I made this "Filipino Picadillo" for lunch today and it came out really good, just like Mr. Shy's mom had made me basically. I did do a few things different then this recipe I found online just so I could get it the way I had imagined it being and yea...perfect'o ;DMy Changes to the Recipe

Instead of the pasta sauce I had opted for a chopped tomato instead. Also once you add the tomatoes I also added in a small box of raisins which I had soaking in some warm water prior to adding (I soak them because the raisins can be a bit too sweet and overpowering if not washed before hand) you can also choose to add the raisins to your rice instead which Mr. Shy's mom had actually done.I used a can of white potatoes because that's what I had in my house but Mr. Shys mom used red potatoes which is nice if you want to add some color to your food but it taste about the same in my opinion. Now once you add your potatoes it says to cook for 7 minutes, well in my opinion 7 minutes isn't long enough to cook potatoes and also I didn't want my picadillo to be on the runny-side because of the 2 cups of water added (also Mr. Shys mom's recipe wasn't runny). So instead I turned the heat on high, put a covered lid on it and let it cook 20-25 minutes stirring occasionally.

As a side note I would recommend letting your meat fry up long enough to were their isn't any heavy sign of beef grease showing in your pan prior to you adding your water or you might get a bit too greasy of a flavor in your end result (hope this helps with that). I think its an even better idea to fry up your meat, put it in a strainer, rinse it with hot water and then place it back into your frying pan (this meal get pretty greasy and can kill some of the other flavors).

You can also choose to use a red onion if you'd like more color (I believe Mr. Shy's mom did), I don't think this would affect the taste much either although some onions do tend to be sweeter or stronger then others.

I believe this is enough picadillo that you'll need to make 2 cups of rice to go with it because my one cup of rice didn't seem near enough. I also used what rice I had in my pantry :P This recipe also states "salt" several times and I believe that's referring to table salt aside from the 1tbsp of sea salt it mentions.

This past weekend my Halloween didn't go as planned as my mom had made her own plan and as usual I'm the last to know anything in my house. Regardless my mom's friend called me and wanted to spend Halloween with me, so we got all dressed up and giggled at the silly costumes a few people wore (she's supposed to send me pics but hasn't happened yet). We got about 4o Tricker-Treaters this year and they ate all my Reese Cups! Why do they have to be one of the best Halloween candies EVER and so irresistible to the lil ding-dong ringing gremlins that come to my door?! hah. I've never been keen on Olive Garden since I was a kid, but the other night I went there with my parents and ordered the Ravioli di Portobello and OMG it was pretty good, the best dish I've ever had there!

For those of you possibly disappointed I didn't find a perfect torn shirt dupe via Target in a past post I actually did find one recently by Anna Sui. Its not exact but its got that ripped effect and it can be tied looser then how the image shows.

I redesigned my blogger layout today once again, it'll probably keep changing throughout the months since...I find HTML and graphic design to be fun like that, hah.

Quick & Easy Candy Corn Nails

I know its a bit late to be posting Halloween inspired nail tutorials but I thought up this quick idea and although you don't have to do candy corn colors you could still wear this any time of the year.
What you'll need
Paper plate (to put your paint on)
White, Orange and Yellow nail polish (recommended for this look)
Clear Nail Polish TopCoat
Cosmetic Wedge Sponge Applicator
Step 1: Paint nails using a white nail polish(1-3 coats)

Step 2: Take a cosmetic wedge sponge applicator and dip it into your orange nail polish(several coats) 2/3 from the tip of your nail toward the base of your nail.

Step 3: Take a clean side of your cosmetic wedge sponge applicator and dip it into your yellow nail polish(several coats) should be the last 1/3 of your nail at the tips.

Step 4: Apply a topcoat, let dry completely and your finished(I of course think that a matte topcoat would look more realistic so that's what I used)

*You could also have your nail tips white and the base yellow but generally the middle is always orange color, in which case you'd paint your entire nail yellow(Step 1) and sponge on the white at the tips(Step 3).

Create Smooth Nails

Ever get tiny bubbles on your nails after applying your polish or little nicks? Or have a rough or bumpy texture on your nails from glitter, nail designs or maybe just your nails in general? Well I've created an easy technique to help smooth the finish of your nails and have them looking as shiny and smooth as press-on nails(some people think my nails are fake)!What you'll need

-Essie Matte Topcoat in Matte About You
-Sally Hansen Topcoat in Hard as Nails Hard as Wraps in Clear

Step 1: Apply 1-3 coats of Clear Topcoat over your completed nails (If you have any glitter, shimmer, etc in your nail polish you'll need to apply more coats as Step 2 may alter the color, especially in those types of polishes)

Step 2: Apply 1-3 coats of Essie Matte About You (You can generally tell how many coats you need by the after-texture each coat leaves after being applied, in general the more you apply the smoother the nail will be). If you want to keep a matte look to your nails then you don't need to proceed to Step 3. Let Dry.

Step 3: Apply 1-2 coats of the Sally Hansen topcoat again once Step 2 has dried. Let polish dry completely and your smoother more flawless nails are complete!

P.S. This is just the brands that I use to do this but it may work with other brands as well. I know this may seem like a lot of coats of polish but it can generally be done fairly quick and the more coats that are built up on the nail the more it gets that press-on nail look as press-on nails sit higher up on the nail then natural nails tend to.

Since I loveeee Makeup sooo much...I couldn't help but take a sneak peek into my friends regular makeup bag...I'm sooo nosey(don't kill me, hah). Now, lets dive-in cuz I see sum MAC in their!!!LASH-A-DELIC FLIRT! FAST DEFINING MASCARA IN 01 MOD BLACK ($14)
I've never seen this before but looks like it's sold at KOHLS (we both use to work their)...it smells like old cheap mascara even though it apparently isn't and it's a bit liquidy then what I'm use to using.

MAC STUDIO SCULPT SPF 15 FOUNDATION IN NC42 ($35.50)
Seems blendable but few shades too dark for my fair skin (better for her Latin colour), has a weird smell :l Too expensive in my opinion but I also prolly wear makeup more often then she does.

MAC MINERALIZE SKINFINISH NATURAL IN MEDIUM PLUS ($27)
This appeared to leave a nice soft subtle finish to the skin but didn't seem to add much coverage but...what do you expect when a product says "natural skinfinish".

ESTEE LAUDER PROJECTIONIST MASCARA IN 01 BLACK ($19.50)
A more pricey mascara, I believe my Mom has this...hope this is the one she's using (LOL).

SPA H20 HYDRATING BODY BUTTER ($19.50)
I'm not sure what company sells this (some other state it seems)...I didn't try it but it looks like she uses this regularly as the top was screwed on loose.

VICTORIA SECRET PERFUME IN ORANGE FLOWER
I kept smelling something from the time I got near the bag and i wasn't sure I liked it at first but now the smell seems fairly alluring. I know she's the type which has odd perfumes, usually ones of peach fragrance. Although this tester says "orange" it smells more of strong yet muted floral scent. Apparently it's new this year and for those of you that don't know her...she gets discounts at VS ;)

MARKWINS BEAUTY IN LIGHT PALE 801
I think this is the brand name (sold at Target? Some kid makeup brand?), not sure where she got this exactly but it appears to be some type of coverage stick that seems more my color then hers, looks like she uses it often though.

MAC PRO LONGWEAR LIPCOLOUR IN DURASHELL ($21)
I did a wrist swatch with this and at first it's a nice pink color with gold shimmer, it goes on okay and then you follow up with the clear gloss. The gloss doesn't last long, it feels dry quick but the color does have some staying power as it fades into a nude-brown-pink color within seconds it seemed. BTW it took about 2 days for this to wash completely off my wrist!

As for any makeup brushes she used it generally consisted from the Victoria Secret Very Sexy Collection which came with her makeup bag. She mostly used foundation brushes...well she didn't have any eyeshadow so no need for the other brushes I suppose. She does groom her brows with a Maybelline brow brush, heh. All in all this total collection of hers is over $136.50, eep, I'll stick to drugstore stuff! Her usual makeup is generally natural looking, unlike her sister who does makeup vids on YouTube that are sooo caked-on and bold you'd think Drag Queen ;D LOL

P.S. If you invite me over...I WILL go through your makeup!!! SYKE...but not really ^.^ hahah

Target Fall/Winter Fashion Ideas

As I was searching for fall/winter fashion this year I came across a few styles (as pictured below) and thanks to Target.com I was able to some-what dupe the looks, enjoy!

It was hard to dupe the top to this look (below) but I figured since it has that ripped fishnet feel I'd pick a chunky bold almost sea-like necklace (pearls, chains, buried treasure! haha) to make this top POP. Since most of us women need a handbag I picked this rusty bronze colored hobo bag which complimented the color tone in the shirt and necklace while upping the metallic feel that was lacking from my top.

That's it for now, your comments are always welcome...maybe you can find a better way to dupe these via Target or perhaps a different store but I thought these weren't bad given the circumstances I used, haha. Would love to see different dupe trends that everyone could create for this year! TTYL!!!

Nail Trending

I picked up "For Audrey" by China Glaze recently, got compliments on the color in fact! The pink color is "Basket Case" by Orly which is one of my favvv pinks that also gets compliments as well and I totally dig the name, haha. The gold glitter on top is "Gold Rush" by CoverGirl which looks kinda cool with a matte topcoat if you don't wanna sport the normal shiny look as pictured above.

This is a marble water technique I found when surfin' YouTube. I put these two colors on top of Milani "Colorful in Coral" which is a reddish pink color. The yellow color is Sally Hansen "Lightening" and the orange color is Essie "Bright Tights" which is a bright orange that I've been searching everywhere for. This is a messy technique to be honest and I can't say I was THAT crazy with the results but it was my first attempt at this, so be easy.

This is Milani in "Timeless" which I came across last month I believe and it was the last one left at the store apparently and I haven't seen it on the web. The top photo has a matte top coat in Essie "Matte About You" which is suppose to be all the rage this fall...my mom hates it and for my personal review its kinda cool but the matte finish starts to rub off and my nails seem to chip more. Mr. Sweety complimented me on the shiny version of this ;PI've been upping my polish game to make more unique looks so I took the matte version of Milani "Timeless" and turned it into a french manicure style using NYC "119A" and leavin' it in a shiny finish. Tip for a cheap/easy french manicure: Place a piece of scotch tape over completely dry nails to get straight lines, peel off the tape as soon as your wet nail polish has been applied ;D

I wasn't sure how interested people would find my casual winter style to be so I decided to take a pic of my outfit today...mainly I just wanted to share my new scarf ($5 Wal-Mart find, CHEAP!). It seems every year I get a new scarf which becomes my new found love that I carry around everywhere to keep me warm. I noticed their have been lots of trendy leopard prints going around this season and this scarf comes in several different colors (pink, purple, silver, etc). Its not totally leopard print as it has this zebra stripe to it but the colors sort of give it the leopard appeal I was hunting for and I think it'll look cool with brown or black clothing.

Mascara Blunders

Some makeup brands make many attempts to re-design their beauty products... unfortunately it doesn't appear they're making any real upgrades to their new designs as the outcome is hideous. My honest opinion is that these funky mascara designs don't work and if you're like me...you'll end up throwing them straight into the trash (unless someone in Makeupalley.com wants it?!) Anyhow, here are some mascaras to NOT waste your money on ;P

Mascara Cons...
Product: L’Oreal Paris Telescopic Explosion
Cons: The brush is so small it makes it unstable and hard to get a continuously even coat/s of mascara applied to your lashes. It definitely doesn't volumize your lashes as they stick together, it goes on a bit gloppy. Although it may make lashes appear longer it's such a messy look with this wand that it really doesn't look good unless you can use a more basic shaped mascara wand.

Product: Revlon DoubleTwist MascaraCons: This space saving gaped design only allows the mascara to fill into the empty spaces inside the wand. Mascara really glops on with this wand, not lash flattering at all and the mascara doesn't seem to be the greatest quality even if you decided to use a better wand.

Product: Maybelline Define-A-Lash Pulse Perfection

Cons: First off for $15 drugstore mascara, I'll pass on the purchase. Secondly if people are sooo lazy that they can't wriggle a mascara wand as we've been doing for so many years already then... yea, 'nuff said. Also I read plenty of mixed reviews that the vibrating wand makes you blink too much as if it'll vibrate right into your eye and I've seen review pics online of this and those tarantula lashes just aren't at all cute.

Lights Inspired

This past week I was inspired by "Lights" and I don't mean the kind that you use in your everyday life but Lights (Valerie Poxleitner) the musician. I've watched majority of her videos after discovering her via MySpace, I even found her CD at BestBuy (apparently only found at selective BestBuy stores) also her website says her CD is sold at Target but I didn't find it online (target.com) nor did I find it in the stores so...kinda thinkin' that was a lie.After watching her "Saviour" music video I remember catching a glimpse at the bedside lamps she had (as pictured in the beginning of this post), so as I made a trip to Ross for some cheap shopping I ended up seeing these 2 lamps which for whatever reason reminded me of the vid, weird since these Ross lamps don't look at all identical to the ones in her vid. I guess her 80's space-age retro vibe just made me feel these would almost be to the same effect as the ones in her vid... don't ya think?

The other thing about Lights is...she feels a persons shoes can reveal a lot about them, which even helped her in picking out her band-mates. Before I even knew Lights existed I saw some adorable boots at Target and...I passed them up, but after seeing how Lights had similar boots in almost every video (she just paints them different colors) I just had to run back and pick-up these! BTW these shoes are totally comfortable and honestly...I feel so empowered and ready for adventure when I wear these (totally crazy right?!). The only downfall is the top of these boots is a bit flimsy and look kinda odd around the ankle when worn outside of pants or bare legs (OMG, I bet these will look cute with my furry black leg warmers over top!).
As per my Twitter I am currently designing one of my fish tanks in a "Lights" style, mainly like her Saviour vid but I'm also adding a comic flare to it. I'm not sure if I'll post it up on here or at Guppy-Guide yet but stay tuned for more as the tank is still undergoing remodeling! Sorry for sounding in love with Lights but her music is sweet and I love that she's bringing keytar back ;) haha

Hell's Kitchen

This is the first time I've watched an entire season of Hell's Kitchen...oh man do I heart Chef Gordon Ramsay, jahaa... okay I def wouldn't want to be the one he refers to as a "Donkey" but he does make for entertaining TV. I also like playing his Wii game which I believe may be similar to Cooking Mama but the game also gives you recipes that you can do outside of just the hustling and bustling game-play around a kitchen.

For those of you that didn't watch this season it seemed hard for them to complete an entire dinner service, the first guy to leave was totally "BP" as my friend and I would say, people having trouble cooking lamb, halibut and just getting along in general esp. on the ladies team, Chef Ramsay even got sooo upset during one dinner service that he walked out of the kitchen and shockingly Kevin didn't win this season. Instead the winner of Hell's Kitchen this season was none other than an expression-less "one armed bandit" named Dave Levey, who's more of a cook with one arm then any other contestant could have possibly been this season. I don't even think he won any challenges except the one at his final cook-off with contestant Kevin.

After watching the show their were a few things I wouldn't mind learning to cook... risotto, scallops and a few other popular food items that I've never made before. So...stay tuned and perhaps when I'm not procrastinating I will get around to sharing a bit more as I've been meaning to do.

Coffee Shop Nails

As I was in the process of finding songs to add to my previous post about my "Whip It" soundtrack I came across Landon Pigg who will be starring in the movie (nude I believe!) and he's also a Musician. Well, several days before the movie is out his soundtrack featuring the song "High Times" featuring Turbo Fruit is suppose to be released as well (Sept 29th I'm assuming). So as I was video surfing I came across the following video for Landon Pigg called "Falling In Love At A Coffee Shop", you may have heard this song before and you can check-out the vid on his MySpace (as it seems to be blocked from other websites).

Anywayyyyy...the main girl in his coffee shop video has very cute and colorful nails, below are some edited photo's from the actual video and as usual I'm going to give some quick nail color dupes using colors that I already have in my huge polish collection. I'll even give you the thumb colors which you can't see here but could possibly figure it out on your own as each finger is 1 of 5 colors per each hand.LEFT HAND(starting pinkie to thumb)

Lime Green - China Glaze in Entourage (this color doesn't seem like an exact dupe match to me but currently the closest match I own right now, I'd recommend "gargantuan green grape" by OPI, "gargantuan green" or "groovy green" by China Glaze or perhaps "lime green" by Barry M)

Nails should be cut short and filed round. Once polish is applied to nails you should use a clear topcoat to protect them and add shine, I've recently been using Sally Hansen in Hard as Wraps (in clear). If you'd like dupes in another brand just drop me a comment!

I just watched the movie "Jennifer's Body" starring Megan Fox and I figured since I gave a Megan Fox makeup tutorial before that I'd now do her nails for this movie (as seen below).Basically it's a pink coloured polish on all the nails except the middle fingers are painted black...that's pretty much my tutorial, very simple right?! LOL.

Thanks to Essie I was able to find a possible dupe for this look! Here's my nail color suggestion...
Keep nails short and filed into a rounded shape. Paint all nails in Essie "Swept off my Feet" except for your middle finger which should be painted in Essie "Licorice". Top off nails with Essie "Top Coat" for a glossy finish.

I had recently been filling in for a co-worker while he decided to take an Alaskan cruise for 2 weeks. While on his trip he went to Vancouver, Alaska and Canada. I begged him for days to send me photo's! What made me eager to see the photos is the fact that his daughter has published photo's in National Geographic, and to me that seems sooo "creme de la creme" because NG images are sooo drool worthy, hah. China Glaze Kicks Collection 2009 (Part 3)

My last installment of this entire collection, yeah! (From Left to Right: Sky High-Top 722, Custom Kicks 721, Entourage 719, Paper Chasing 720)

"Sky High-Top" has a mild bright blue shimmer and is semi bright medium blue color and is darker blue on the nail then it looks in the photo.

"Custom Kicks" has a gold shimmer and is a turquoise green-blue color which looks more blue in the photo then it really is as it's really a teal shade.

"Entourage" has a mild blue-green shimmer and is a lima bean green color.

"Paper Chasing" has a green shimmer and is a Christmas tree green color in the bottle and goes on a bit lighter then it appears.

My fave color of these would have to be "Entourage" which seems to be the fave of most people from this entire 12 piece collection, it just has an interesting appeal to it. "Sky High-Top" seems to be the main one people purchase but it's a bit disappointing on and others seem to agree, perhaps a matte topcoat may make it a more favorable color. My second fave is "Custom Kicks" because it has a nice aqua feel to it and it's really the only one of this collection that has a gold shimmer.

China Glaze Kicks Collection 2009 (Part 2)

Here are 3 swatches from this collection, which I ended up putting all 3 colors on one thumb (I ran outta fingers to swatch them individually, hah). (From Left to Right: Laced Up 726, B-Girlz 725, Its Poppin' 724)

"Laced Up" is a matte pale-ish pink color which looks a bit purple looking in the photo which it really isn't.

"B-Girlz" has a pink shimmer and is a smidge darker then "Laced Up" but still fairly similar.

"Its Poppin'" has a pinkish red shimmer and is a few shades darker on and more vibrant pink then "B-Girlz".

My fave color out of these 3 would probably be "Laced Up" just because I feel it's a happier color (it calls to me! haha) and more versatile to play with using other colors. I bet "It's Poppin'" might be a better color with a matte topcoat applied.

China Glaze Kicks Collection 2009

As I mentioned wayyy back I do have this entire collection which consists of 12 colors in total. So finallyyyy here are the pics and paint swatches I did on myself (sorry bout my sloppy paint job). BTW, these photo's do not have a topcoat, I just swatched each nail once with the polish.(From Left to Right: Sneaker Head 727, Breakin' 730, Oh How Street it is 728, Style Wars 729, Fly 723)

"Sneaker Head" is a matte reddish pink color with a very slight orange tint once applied.

"Breakin'" has a gold shimmer and is a pale-ish orange yellow color which doesn't seem as sparkly in person as the photo nor does it really look like a mustard color like in the bottom photo.

"Oh How Street it is" is a matte red-orange color which is very similar to "Style Wars" which is a tad more on the orange side.

"Fly" has a reddish pink shimmer and is a fuchsia/purple type color which looks more purple in the photo than it really is in person and it goes on looking a bit darker than what it does in the bottle.

Out of these 5 here "Fly" would be my first fave pick and then "Sneaker Head". Since "Oh How Street it is" and "Style Wars" are super similar I'd probably go with "Oh How Street it is" if I had to pick one of the two. Stay posted to my blog for the rest of the colors ;)

Busy Working

Work has been crazy busy for the past several weeks/months, even with 3 days off I've just been feeling exhausted on 6hrs of sleep a night (I have weird sleep patterns). I recently discovered I should be making a dollar more at work but due to lack of my Leads ability to keep up with everyones yearly evaluations I've been getting short changed and apparently I'm not the only one. Random pic at work, fiddling with an inboard skew sensor for an airplane :P

MAC Naked Honey ES Collection Dupes

Leave it to me to find affordable local drugstore dupes because I just tracked down MAC's new Naked Honey eyeshadow collection. This MAC collection only consists of 3 colors and 2 of them are currently sold out. Low and behold among the isles of CVS I came across 2005's Almay Intense i-Color Shadow Trio, For Hazels (Gee, your so original MAC and several years behind, LOL). So Almay's eyeshadow quality may not be as great as MAC but compare Almays $7.42 to MAC's $14.40 for each eyeshadow ($43.20 in total before tax, which means I could buy almost 6 sets of this Almay palette, plus Almay is more likely to go on sale and be even cheaper).Top Photo is Mac set, Bottom Photo is Almay setHere are a few more dupes I was able to find for these 3 colors.

For awhile I had been creating my own eyeshadow color combos based on the colors I see in the VA/MD/DC/WV areas and I haven't posted any new colors for a long time, sooo...here they are! I haven't taken any photos of these looks yet on myself but if you do any of these combos and have some pics you'd let me post up on here then...that'd be sooo cool of you ;D

P.S. I pulled all these colors to the right of the image from the Coastal Scents 88 Shimmer Palette just to save myself time and energy rather than finding drugstore dupes but you can use any eyeshadow color similar to these.

I tried this Jil Jordan product that my co-worker had laying around work which is a french cuticle treatment. It smells sweet like vanilla and leaves my cuticles feeling a bit softer. I think it's a bit pricey for $8 but if you buy the whole french nail kit for $19.99 it may be a much better deal. I would say this product doesn't do much as it just states being a "moisture-protectant" anyway, but it does feel a bit more moisturized around my cuticles than without it. Since this product doesn't do much and the writing on the bottle wears off after awhile and it's a bit pricey I give this product 3/5 stars :l Nothing too specialI purchased some Eyeko products a few weeks back and now that I've had time to try Eyeko's cream AKA there "most wanted product" several different times after reading sooo many good reviews, I can confidently say that...I don't like it. I have fair skin which is a bit on the dry side at times and not perfectly flawless at that. When using this product bare-faced it tended to cake up and flake on my skin and it did the same whether I used my regular face lotion and also when I used my face primer. To further test it I tried it on my arms and eyes, and yes I had the same flakey-cakey results. Sadly I will not be buying this product again and I'll probably try to sell this on EBay. If I can't wear the product then there's no point in judging how it really worked aside from being cakey. With the cute packaging and $9 price I give this product 1/5 stars :P pathetic I bought the Eyeko Fat Balm in Minty flavored which I did enjoy and I think for awhile it had made my lips super soft although can't say it's still having that affect anymore. I'm going to go ahead and place an order to get my free strawberry flavored one as well. The major downfall to this is that its "fat" width of about a quarter in diameter makes this product hard to apply for small mouths and lips without getting it on your face. I give this product 3.5/5 stars :) not bad
Free from Eyeko I received several Eyeko Face Off Wipes which work pretty well and I wouldn't mind having these around in my travel bag. It also states it contains coconut which is one of my favvvv scents, although...I don't remember smelling it while using it. So far I'd say this is the best Eyeko product I've received and I'd give this 4/5 stars :D squeaky clean

My 4th of July really wasn't anything too special...no thanks to Mr. Sweety...no comment. Anywayyyy...I went out to my typical bar spot to dance and what not, and when I left this was in the parking lot...A huge 20 foot tall Turkey Hill Napoleon flavored ice cream mascot of a cow attached to a trailer hitch on the back of a truck! This photo makes it look as big as the hotel, haha. I knew I should've brought my new cam :/ Dangit.
